- OP gains 25.73% weekly as price holds above all four key EMAs.
- Open interest rises to $122.62 million, signaling renewed derivatives market participation.
- Unichain’s October 29 mainnet migration could strengthen Optimism’s infrastructure role.
Optimism (OP) extended its recent gains on October 14 as rising derivatives activity and an upcoming Unichain infrastructure transition drew attention to the Ethereum scaling ecosystem. OP traded around $0.1531, gaining 11.20% over 24 hours and 25.73% over seven days. Its trading volume reached approximately $227.9 million, while its market capitalization stood at $352.7 million.
OP Price Holds Above Key Moving Averages
OP maintains a bullish structure on the four-hour chart despite selling pressure near recent highs. The token recently approached $0.1600 before retreating toward $0.1537. This pullback suggests that some traders are securing profits after the latest advance.
Significantly, OP remains above its four major exponential moving averages (EMAs). The 20 EMA sits at $0.1434, while the 50 EMA stands at $0.1375. Additionally, the 100 EMA and 200 EMA provide support at $0.1334 and $0.1261, respectively.
The Average Directional Index (ADX) currently reads 26.96, exceeding the 25 threshold. This reading indicates an established trend, although it does not independently confirm bullish direction.

OP must reclaim $0.1585 to strengthen its immediate outlook. A breakout above $0.1600 could open the way toward $0.1650. Conversely, a decline below $0.1513 could expose support between $0.1434 and $0.1427.
Open Interest Signals Renewed Derivatives Activity
Optimism’s derivatives market is showing signs of recovery after months of subdued participation. Open interest climbed above $250 million during an earlier surge before falling sharply as traders unwound leveraged positions.

Throughout 2026, open interest frequently fluctuated between $50 million and $100 million. However, recent activity has lifted the metric to approximately $122.62 million as of October 14.
This recovery suggests that traders are rebuilding their positions. Nevertheless, rising open interest alone cannot establish whether they expect prices to increase or decline.
Exchange Flows Reveal Persistent Selling Pressure
Spot exchange flows present a more complicated picture for OP’s recovery. Negative netflows dominated much of the observed period, although occasional inflow spikes indicated changing trading behavior.
Large outflow spikes appeared in late January and early May. February also recorded intermittent inflows exceeding $3 million, highlighting periods of increased exchange deposits.

On October 14, OP registered approximately $754,560 in net outflows while trading near $0.1535. Exchange outflows can indicate accumulation when investors move tokens into private wallets.

However, this metric alone cannot confirm buying intentions or eliminate selling risks. Moreover, sustained demand must support any recovery if OP hopes to overcome resistance around $0.1600.
Unichain Upgrade Adds Fundamental Context
Optimism’s ecosystem also faces an important infrastructure development involving Unichain. Uniswap announced its migration plans on October 9, scheduling the testnet transition for October 13 and mainnet migration for October 29.
Under the arrangement, Optimism will manage production infrastructure, including sequencers, remote procedure call services, monitoring, and incident response. Existing chain identifiers, contracts, balances, and Uniswap deployments will remain unchanged.
Hence, the transition could reinforce Optimism’s role in supporting Ethereum-based infrastructure. However, its direct effect on OP’s market price remains uncertain.
Technical Outlook for Optimism (OP) Price
Key levels remain well-defined as Optimism tests resistance following its recent rally.
Upside levels: $0.1585 and $0.1600 represent immediate hurdles. A breakout could extend toward $0.1650.
Downside levels: $0.1513 serves as immediate support, followed by $0.1434–$0.1427 around the 20-day-period EMA and Fibonacci support zone. Further declines could expose $0.1375–$0.1367 and $0.1306.
Resistance ceiling: $0.1600 remains the key level to break for stronger bullish momentum. OP’s four-hour chart maintains a bullish moving-average alignment, while an ADX reading of 26.96 signals an established trend. However, persistent exchange outflows and recovering open interest suggest that traders remain cautious.
Will Optimism Go Up?
Optimism’s price prediction hinges on whether buyers can defend $0.1513 and reclaim the $0.1585–$0.1600 resistance cluster. If bullish momentum strengthens alongside rising open interest, OP could advance toward $0.1650.

Additionally, Unichain’s planned mainnet migration on October 29 could reinforce Optimism’s ecosystem relevance. However, failure to hold $0.1513 could expose OP to $0.1434 and potentially $0.1375. For now, OP remains at a pivotal level, with technical confirmation and sustained buying pressure likely to determine its next move.
