- U.S. CPI hit 3.7% and core inflation 2.6%, both above forecasts, pressuring crypto.
- Standard Chartered, Privy, and Meritz agreements do not confirm institutional XRP buying.
- XRP trades near $1.36, with a break below $1.34–$1.30 exposing $1.28 and $1.246.
XRP traded near $1.36 on October 14 as hotter U.S. inflation overshadowed Ripple’s agreements. With a recovery above $1.40 becoming increasingly uncertain, attention has shifted to whether buyers can defend the $1.34–$1.30 support zone and whether Ripple’s expanding partnerships can generate measurable XRP demand.
Standard Chartered Adds RLUSD Custody as Privy, Meritz Joins Ripple
On October 12, Standard Chartered launched institutional custody of Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin on the XRP Ledger through its regulated Dubai branch. The bank, Ripple, and LMAX Group also proposed using RLUSD as trading collateral without transferring tokens directly to LMAX, subject to testing and approvals.
A day later, Stripe-owned Privy announced XRP Ledger wallet integration for developers, supporting XRP, RLUSD, and other assets. However, the agreement does not confirm Stripe will process XRP payments.
Meanwhile, on October 14, Meritz Securities partnered with Ripple to explore Ripple Custody and tokenization in South Korea, initially targeting existing securities operations. However, further expansion depends on regulation.
Ripple’s Three Deals Do Not Yet Confirm Direct XRP Token Demand
Despite expanding institutional access, none of these agreements confirms substantial XRP purchases. RLUSD custody and collateral arrangements do not require institutions to acquire equivalent XRP holdings.
Moreover, the ledger’s base account reserve is 1 XRP, while standard transactions typically cost 0.00001 XRP. These requirements establish network utility rather than significant investment demand.
Consequently, sustained spot buying, XRP-denominated settlement, and institutional accumulation remain important indicators. CoinGecko data showed XRP/BTC declining nearly 2.9%, from 0.00001687 on October 8 to 0.00001638 on October 14, indicating underperformance against Bitcoin.
Hotter 3.7% CPI Puts XRP’s $1.34–$1.30 Support at Risk
That weakness coincides with a less favorable macroeconomic backdrop. September headline CPI rose 3.7% annually, exceeding the 3.6% forecast and August’s 3.4%. Similarly, core CPI reached 2.6%, above the expected 2.5% and the previous 2.4%.

On a monthly basis, headline inflation climbed 0.6%, matching forecasts, while core prices rose 0.3% against a 0.2% estimate. The hotter core reading weakened the energy-driven inflation narrative, raising concerns about higher Treasury yields and further pressure on risk assets.
Against this backdrop, the four-hour XRP chart showed prices near $1.3569, below recovery thresholds of $1.3668 and $1.3805. Sellers now threaten the $1.34–$1.30 support region, extending to approximately $1.3086. A decisive break below $1.30 could expose $1.2827, followed by September’s $1.2463 low.

To stabilize, buyers must reclaim $1.3668–$1.3805, then $1.394–$1.40. A sustained breakout could eventually reopen $1.425 and $1.50–$1.54. Even then, XRP would need a rising XRP/BTC ratio to demonstrate outperformance rather than a market-wide rebound.
Three XRP Scenarios After Hot CPI
| Scenario | Expected Market Implications |
| Bullish: Support Holds | Defending $1.34–$1.30 and reclaiming $1.3805 could reopen $1.40 if macro pressure eases. |
| Neutral: Sideways Trading | XRP could consolidate between $1.34 and $1.38 while traders assess Treasury yields and spot demand. |
| Bearish: Support Breaks | A sustained move below $1.30 would expose $1.2827, then $1.2463 as downside pressure persists. |
FAQs
Only a sustained reclaim of $1.3668–$1.3805, followed by $1.40, would materially strengthen the recovery outlook.
No. RLUSD custody, wallet infrastructure, and tokenization projects do not automatically require substantial XRP purchases.
It would require improving XRP/BTC performance and stronger independent spot demand despite tighter macroeconomic conditions.
The next chart levels are approximately $1.2827 and $1.2463, with further losses possible if selling accelerates.
