Hyperliquid ‘Binance 2.0’? Debate Grows Over HYPE
  • Hyperliquid debate splits critics and supporters over “Binance 2.0” claims and innovation.
  • Supporters cite strong revenue, volume, and institutional backing as proof of real product-market fit.
  • HYPE keeps hitting new highs, with analysts eyeing $70–$80 if momentum continues.

A heated debate has emerged over the long-term future of Hyperliquid (HYPE). Critics argue the fast-growing decentralized trading platform is little more than «Binance 2.0.» Supporters, however, say it has already become one of crypto’s biggest success stories.

Notably, the discussion gained attention after crypto commentator DeFi Monk explained why Hyperliquid’s regulatory challenges could actually create a major investment opportunity.

Investment Opportunity in Regulatory Challenges

DeFi Monk said Hyperliquid still has significant growth potential even without access to the U.S. market. He argued that the platform could still perform well because it targets the global CFDs market, which handles around $1 trillion in daily trading volume.

He added that the upside would increase significantly if regulations become more favorable in the future. He also pointed to growing support from major industry players, including Coinbase, Circle, Paradigm, Grayscale, and Bitwise.

Overall, he believes Hyperliquid’s risk-reward profile remains strong. «If this doesn’t work, then Hyperliquid is basically just what it is today, and it can still be a secular grower,» he said. «If it does work, this thing becomes a mega business almost overnight.»

‘Just Binance 2.0’

Not everyone agrees with that bullish outlook. Kyle Samani, chairman of Forward Industries, pushed back on the Hyperliquid narrative. He argued that the project has not introduced meaningful innovation.

«Hyperliquid is just Binance 2.0 without a marketing team,» Samani wrote on X. He claimed the protocol has made thousands of technical decisions that work well in a centralized environment. However, he believes those same decisions would struggle in a fully permissionless and decentralized system.

Samani also argued that Hyperliquid’s success is largely the result of regulatory arbitrage rather than technological breakthroughs.

«They didn’t do anything new. It’s just Binance 2.0,» he wrote. «No technical innovation. Just temporary regulatory arbitrage.»

According to Samani, many supporters exaggerate the platform’s decentralization and tokenomics. He believes this creates a misleading narrative around the project.

Supporters Defend Hyperliquid’s Track Record

The criticism sparked responses from market participants who said Hyperliquid’s results speak for themselves. Market commentator Eddie questioned why some critics continue attacking the project despite its rapid growth.

«Hyperliquid has been an undeniable success to date of its own doing,» Eddie wrote. «Pretending otherwise is unequivocally coping.»

He compared dismissing Hyperliquid today to calling Microsoft a failed company during its early growth stage, despite clear market traction.

Other community members highlighted Hyperliquid’s lack of venture capital funding as a major difference from many crypto projects.

Hyperliquid in the Markets

The debate reflects a split in the crypto industry. Critics view Hyperliquid as a strong but regulatory grey-area platform that largely mirrors centralized exchange models like Binance.

Supporters point to hundreds of millions in revenue, trillions in trading volume, and growing institutional interest as proof of strong product-market fit, regardless of originality.

In a recent report, Grayscale said Hyperliquid could evolve into a major financial services firm, not just a trading platform. Despite being under three years old and restricted in markets like the U.S., it has grown into one of the largest perpetual futures platforms globally.

Meanwhile, Hyperliquid’s native token HYPE has been a breakout success in the market. It continues to set new all-time highs even while Bitcoin dips and the broader market remains in a bearish phase.

As it trades at $65, market analysts remain bullish, with targets around $70 and $80 if momentum continues.
