Coinbase Director Conor Grogan has reignited the discussion surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity. In a recent thread on X, Grogan highlighted his findings after looking into Nakamoto’s wallet. According to Grogan, the founder of Bitcoin owns 1.096 million BTC, equivalent to $108 billion, which makes him wealthier on paper than Bill Gates.

Grogan’s Findings: A Canadian Connection?

Grogan highlighted several other findings, including that Nakamoto’s wallet was last active in 2014 and may have used a Canadian Bitcoin exchange for his transactions. Based on those findings, the Coinbase Director suspects that those at the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange may know Nakamoto’s real identity.

Meanwhile, per Nakamoto’s BTC holdings, Grogan cited a Patoshi mining pattern set of addresses cataloged by Arkham as his source of information. Although he did not find established links to the mysterious Bitcoin founder, the analyst stated there is sufficient evidence to suspect a relationship between the addresses and the unknown creator of Bitcoin.

Tracing the Transactions

Grogan highlighted details of transactions linked to the addresses, noting 24 documented outbound sends from them. According to the analyst, most transfers went to an address identified as 1PYYj. That address received BTC from Cavirtex, a Canadian exchange, in a transfer he believes to be the first documented on-chain transaction between a Satoshi-linked wallet and a centralized exchange (CEX).

The Coinbase Director shared several more details that strengthened his conviction about Nakamoto’s real identity, including a 12ib funding and evidence connecting the 1PYYj address to an early Bitcoin adopter or contributor. However, he did not present conclusive evidence to prove his assertion beyond any reasonable doubt. Instead, he pointed at Kraken Chairman Jesse Powell as someone he believed would know Nakamoto’s true identity.

The Satoshi Mystery: An Ongoing Debate

A pseudonymous figure identified as Satoshi Nakamoto published Bitcoin’s whitepaper in October 2008, a few months before the cryptocurrency launched.

The topic of the Bitcoin creator’s identity dominated the cryptocurrency’s early days but subsided over time. Grogan’s latest posts serve as a reminder and could trigger a revisit to the topic, considering the cryptocurrency’s growth for over 15 years.
