  • SHIB has very little chance of repeating its insane 2021 bull-market price surge.
  • SHIB’s $3.19B market cap would need to reach about $80B for a 25x valuation.
  • The real question now is whether another crypto mania could make an $80B Shiba Inu valuation possible.

A Shiba Inu (SHIB) rally matching its explosive 2021 surge may be “next to impossible” under today’s market conditions.

However, another burst of crypto speculation could change that equation, putting SHIB’s current roughly $3.19 billion market cap back in focus as investors consider how far the meme coin could run if retail crypto mania returns.

Why SHIB May Not Repeat Its 2021 Rally

In 2021, SHIB went from near-zero to a multi-billion-dollar phenomenon within months. Much of that rally was due to a once-in-a-lifetime event: Vitalik Buterin was given half of SHIB’s total supply and then burned about 90% of it. Today the situation is completely different: SHIB is valued at roughly $3.19 billion with approximately 589 trillion tokens in circulation.

That, in turn, makes it much harder to repeat another 2021-style SHIB rally. Even with continued burns, it would take time to actually have a material impact on the token supply, while the speculative conditions that fueled Shiba Inu’s initial frenzy have changed.

What Would a 25x Rally Mean for Shiba Inu’s Market Cap?

A 25-times increase from a $3.19 billion market cap would push SHIB toward the $80 billion range. This would make it one of the most valuable cryptocurrencies by market cap, putting it in the same league as tokens like XRP. The figure shows why it would take a completely different level of market participation to repeat SHIB’s 2021 percentage gains.

In other words, a “mere” 25x move is no longer a speculative lottery ticket for early buyers. It would require SHIB to become a large-scale, market-wide phenomenon again, drawing in billions of dollars in new capital and sustained interest from both retail and institutional participants.

Reclaiming its previous peak market capitalization of more than $40 billion would require significant re-pricing, while reaching $80 billion would demand an even larger valuation increase. The key question is whether another wave of crypto speculation could create the market conditions needed to support such a valuation.

Could Crypto Mania Push SHIB Toward a $80B Valuation?

History offers a counter-argument. The cryptocurrency market has had several moments like this, where values seem ludicrous until a wave of retail speculation briefly makes them plausible. For instance, as seen with Dogecoin, Solana, and SHIB itself, money can flow into narratives with little fundamental appeal when risk appetite in the broader market becomes excessive.

So, the real question now is not whether the 2021 SHIB playbook can be copied note-for-note. But whether another round of crypto mania could create an environment irrational enough to justify an $80 billion valuation for a meme coin remains to be seen. If one of these waves hits, fueled by liquidity, a social media trend, or a broader risk-on move, the market conditions that currently make an $80 billion valuation seem prohibitive could temporarily become much more favorable.

In addition, whether it happens is more a matter of the capacity for collective speculation in the next cycle than SHIB’s tokenomics. The skeptical case remains solid on paper. History, however, demonstrates that crypto has consistently generated valuations that at times seemed hard to justify. That is what makes the $80 billion SHIB scenario a possibility, although such a trajectory would likely involve another unprecedented speculative cycle.
