The US and UK are moving to disrupt scam centers as crypto fraud drains billions from victims. The alliance targets networks involved in fraud, money laundering and human trafficking.
The agreement brings together US prosecutors, Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service and the National Crime Agency. The agencies will share intelligence, coordinate investigations and decide which country should prosecute cases.
The effort expands the US Scam Center Strike Force, created in November 2025 to target organized scam networks. Officials will also coordinate with private-sector partners on a disruption operation in London this October.
Billions Linked to Scam Networks
FinCEN said nearly $13 billion in reported financial activity was tied to suspected digital-asset investment scams. Criminals often use fake identities and social engineering to gain victims’ trust before directing them toward fraudulent investments.

These schemes include romance baiting and “pig butchering,” where scammers build relationships with victims before introducing fake investment opportunities.
The FBI has also warned that crypto investment fraud remains a major source of losses for Americans.
UK Fraud Losses Rise
UK investment scam losses exceeded £221.5 million in 2025, according to UK Finance. That marked a 40% increase from the previous year as criminals used social media, cold calls and increasingly sophisticated tactics to target victims.
The rising losses are pushing Washington and London to strengthen cooperation against cross-border fraud networks that use digital assets to move funds.
