- Former Head of Product at X, Nikita Bier, said the trade buttons are on the way.
- Cashtags let users view real-time stock and crypto data directly in their timeline.
- X could serve as the front door for trades, leaving execution to exchanges.
Former Head of Product at X, Nikita Bier, said that Cashtags enable users to embed Solana and Ethereum charts directly into posts. He added that the trade buttons are on the way, and users can already paste in contract addresses for new tokens.
With this feature, X is potentially compressing the entire trading journey into one spot, where users can find an asset, see what’s being said about it, check its price, and eventually buy or sell it, all without ever leaving the thread or the platform.
From Crypto Discussion to Crypto Execution
X has always been one of the most important places where crypto buzz gets started. A token can go from unknown to trending simply because traders, influencers, developers, or a community start talking about it.
With the introduction of Cashtags back in April, users can see real-time stock and crypto data right in their timeline. This is notable because someone might encounter a newly launched token through a post before they ever see it on a major exchange.
As for the new features Bier announced, X is trying to capture the first few minutes of the investor journey.
What’s more, X doesn’t have to become the next Binance or Coinbase to take on exchanges. Basically, it can go after users’ attention before they hit the buy button.
The platform could become the front door where people start their trades, while exchanges or brokers handle the actual execution behind the scenes.
Once those two are linked, the line between social media and finance starts to blur.
The Bigger Web3 Trend
Interestingly, this isn’t a sudden shift, given that crypto is already moving financial tools into the apps people use every day. For instance, wallets are adding swap functions, messaging apps are adding payments, DeFi platforms are building in trading, and social networks are experimenting with built-in finance features.
X seems to be taking that idea a step further, where the timeline itself becomes part of the trading experience. That could make it a lot easier for crypto traders to get in on the action.
For the social network, it could create a powerful new role between social media and exchanges.
But for investors, the most important question may soon be: what happens when the platform where traders discover a crypto token is also the platform where they can trade it?
It could mean a much smoother crypto experience, but also one where viral interest turns into immediate buying pressure faster than ever.
