  • Aviva launched a tokenized share class of its £22B fund on XRPL with £50M backing.
  • The company noted this launch follows its US dollar tokenized liquidity fund from July.
  • The tokenized shares use a digital twin system on XRPL without altering fund operations.

Aviva Investors has rolled out a tokenized share class of its £22 billion (roughly $29 billion) Sterling Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger, putting £50 million (approximately $67 million) into the new offering.

The announcement came on October 26 and expands the asset manager’s partnership with Ripple, highlighting growing institutional interest in using blockchain for traditional banking and investment products.

Aviva Investors says that this new share class comes after it launched a tokenized US dollar liquidity fund in July. The company now has over £86 million (about $115 million) invested across both tokenized offerings.

How the Tokenized Fund Works

The Sterling Liquidity Fund invests in safe, short-term investments paid in British pounds, allowing investors to deposit or withdraw their money on any business day. Based in Ireland, it operates under strict European regulatory standards for money market funds.

The tokenized share class uses a “digital twin” system, which creates a digital representation of fund shares on the XRP Ledger without changing the actual investments or how the fund is run. Approved investors can view and manage their shares through digital crypto wallets while keeping the exact same investment goals and legal protections.

Ripple delivers the underlying blockchain technology, while crypto custodian Komainu and tokenization platform Licuido help manage the digital tokens. The Bank of New York Mellon continues to securely hold the fund’s actual cash and investments.

Mark Versey, CEO of Aviva Investors, said that tokenized funds can make background operations smoother and ultimately provide a better experience for investors. He added that the company plans to continue working with Ripple to bring more tokenized financial products to market.

This launch offers another real-world example of big financial firms using the XRP Ledger, proving that blockchain technology can safely handle strictly regulated investment products.

In the future, turning shares into digital tokens could make buying, selling, recordkeeping, and managing funds faster and easier, though how much better it gets will depend on how many companies adopt it.
