- The Federal Reserve has decided not to change the current interest rates.
- The decision has sparked a positive sentiment in the crypto market.
- Fed Chair Warsh has revealed three major reasons for the central bank’s decision.
Following the July 28-29 FOMC meeting, the Federal Reserve has finally announced the much-awaited interest rate decision. As largely expected, the Fed has reportedly held the interest rates unchanged at 3.50%-3.75%. This reveals the central bank’s cautious approach amid global tensions and inflation risks.
Notably, the Fed’s interest rate decision is expected to influence the broader financial market. While the current pause on interest rate hikes is considered a positive development for the crypto market, investors are still nervous about the Fed’s potential decisions in September and October.
Federal Reserve Holds Interest Rates Steady after July FOMC
In line with market expectations, the Federal Reserve has maintained its interest rates unchanged at 3.50%-3.75%. As inflation remains somewhat elevated, the central bank signaled that it will continue to closely monitor incoming economic data before making any future policy changes.
It is worth noting that the decision came with opposition, with a 9-3 vote. This indicates that policymakers voted in favor of rate hikes, raising concerns about inflation risks. The post-meeting statement revealed that three officials “preferred to raise the target range for the federal funds rate by ¼ percentage point at this meeting.”
Although the Fed interest rate decisions matched the consensus among economists, market expectations were more divided. According to CME FedWatch data ahead of the meeting, the odds of the Fed keeping the rates unchanged were at 64%, while there was still a 35% chance of a 25-basis-point interest hike. This mixed sentiment highlights the uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve’s policy decisions.

Unveiling the Impact on Crypto, Bitcoin, and Global Markets
The Federal Reserve’s latest move to hold interest rates steady could be seen as a positive development. It is more reassuring, as there were expectations of a possible hike. So, the move may work as a positive catalyst for Bitcoin, the crypto market, and the broader financial ecosystem. Thus, the Federal Reserve has avoided an unexpected interest rate hike, reducing immediate pressure on the crypto market.
As the central bank has taken a dovish stance, investors will largely shift their focus to risky assets like Bitcoin. This could also influence the broader crypto market. So, cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP, are expected to see notable positive movements despite the overall negative sentiment.
Currently, the crypto market is valued at $2.19 trillion, with a marginal 0.64% surge. While Bitcoin is trading above $64k, with a nearly 1.5% daily hike, Ethereum is priced at $1,892, up 0.5%. At the same time, XRP is valued at $1.07, marking a nearly 2% hike.
Beyond crypto, the Fed’s decision is also expected to shake the global financial markets with a positive nod. US equities usually benefit from stable interest rates. Bond yields and the US dollar may also see notable movements in response to the Fed interest rate decisions.
Why the Federal Reserve Chose to Keep the Interest Rates Unchanged?
Ahead of the Fed interest rate decision, the central bank chair Kevin Warsh already hinted at the policy decision. While he noted the least possibility of the Fed interest rate hike, he revealed three major reasons why the Federal Reserve would hold the interest rate steady this time.
Primarily, he stated that the recent surge in energy prices and AI-related costs may be temporary, which do not need an interest rate hike. He believes that the central bank should not act too quickly for such developments.
As the second reason, Warsh stated that the Fed’s newly formed task forces need more time to study long-term issues such as inflation and the economic impact of AI. Further, Warsh stated that a rate hike would intensify tensions with the Trump administration, which has repeatedly called for lower rates.
