  • BTC survived market crashes, regulatory crackdowns, and major crypto industry collapses.
  • Bitcoin’s history highlights the importance of persistence, research, and risk management.

Over the last couple of years, Bitcoin has had a remarkable journey, having travelled far from its early days, when it was just a few cents. It has survived major price crashes, regulatory restrictions, and the collapse of several crypto companies. Despite facing these challenges, BTC hit an all-time high of around $126k last year.

This is important here as the world is observing the International Day for Failure today, October 13. The day teaches people to learn from setbacks instead of running away from them. Bitcoin deserves special attention as its journey offers a timely lesson in resilience

How Bitcoin Grew from $0.10 to $126K Despite Repeated Crashes?

Significantly, the rise of Bitcoin from its early price level could be attributed to growing adoption, investor interest, and easier accessibility. Initially, BTC was less known among traders. It was viewed as a speculative asset, and most were cautious about it.

Over time, the crypto gained popularity, crossing $1,000 in 2013, and approaching $20,000 in 2017. But this surge was followed by a sharp decline. The trend continued in later years, with BTC climbing to $69,000 in 2021 and falling significantly during the 2022 crypto winter. After the launch of Bitcoin ETFs and regulatory developments under the Trump administration, the crypto saw remarkable growth in 2025, hitting its ATH. This was again followed by another crash in October 2025.

This shows that adoption and investor demand could help an asset recover after major setbacks. At the same time, repeated crashes highlight the risks involved in trading cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin Survived Regulatory Crackdowns and Crypto Industry Collapses

It is worth noting that Bitcoin has faced several challenges. These include government restrictions and crypto company collapses. One of the main examples is China’s ban on crypto transactions and mining in 2021. In 2022, the FTX collapse also impacted the asset, with the price falling sharply after the incident. The previous conditions in the US were also not favourable for BTC, especially under the Biden administration.

However, the fall didn’t mean the cryptocurrency’s complete end. As it does not depend on a single company or central authority, it managed to recover from the losses. The network is maintained by participants around the world. Its open-source design allows developers to review and improve the software. This helped the crypto to stay resilient even when major exchanges collapsed.

Has Bitcoin Outperformed Gold, Silver and Global Stock Indices?

Historically, Bitcoin has delivered much higher returns than gold, silver, and major stock indices. A historical price comparison from 2015 to 2025 shows that BTC’s gains were much better.

For example, BTC was trading around $300 in 2015, while gold was valued at around $1,060. By October 2025, BTC surged to a massive $126k, while gold was trading above $4,000. This shows that Bitcoin’s journey was marked by much faster price growth than gold over the same period.

What Bitcoin’s Biggest Crashes and Recoveries Say

Interestingly, Bitcoin’s historical movements teach traders that market crashes do not always indicate an asset’s end. If BTC has fallen from its highs, it has also managed to recover from its lows. But there are more things traders need to notice.

One key lesson is the importance of managing risk. Investors who buy an asset may face heavy losses when prices fall. If investors diversify investments, and avoid excessive borrowing could help reduce the impact of sudden market declines.

The price history also highlights the need for investors to do adequate research before investing in an asset. No one should put money into an asset out of fear and excitement. On the International Day for Failure, Bitcoin’s history offers a reminder that setbacks could teach valuable lessons.

Why Conviction Is Different from Refusing to Accept a Bad Investment

It is important to distinguish between conviction and refusing to accept a mistake. Conviction is believing in an investment after researching its value. It also includes understanding the asset’s risks, with the trader having a clear plan. At the same time, refusing to accept a bad decision means holding on to an asset simply because the trader does not want to admit their mistake.

Bitcoin is an example. If an investor believes in the crypto’s potential, they may hold it through a market crash. The trader may still be aware of its inherent risks. At the same time, if an investor holds BTC just because it once traded high, it could lead to potential losses.
