  • Kevin Warsh avoided signaling whether the Fed will raise interest rates again in October.
  • CME FedWatch data showed October rate hike odds falling to 14.9% from 27.7%.
  • Higher energy costs and AI-driven demand could complicate the Fed’s efforts to curb inflation.

On October 16, 2026, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s latest remarks at the IMF-World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok have left markets without a clear signal on whether the central bank will raise interest rates again in October.

Following hotter-than-expected US inflation data, his refusal to rule out further tightening keeps uncertainty around the Fed’s next move alive. For crypto investors and traders, the key question now is how another rate hike could affect the US dollar, Treasury yields, Bitcoin (BTC), gold and stock markets.

Kevin Warsh Avoids Signaling October Fed Rate Hike

Kevin Warsh, speaking during a fireside chat with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Bangkok, Thailand, avoided giving any clear signal on the Federal Reserve’s next monetary policy move.

Warsh declined to indicate whether the Fed would raise interest rates again at its October 27–28 meeting. He stated, “We’re not in that business any more,” referring to forward guidance, adding, “I don’t prejudge meetings. I don’t believe in saying now what I might do at the meetings that we have in the balance of this year.”

Why Hot US Inflation Is Raising Fed Rate Hike Concerns

Warsh justified the rate hike in September that raised the federal funds target range to 3.75% to 4.00%, saying it was “necessary to help deliver price stability and reduce monetary accommodation.” He did not rule out further rate hikes this year, as higher energy costs linked to geopolitical tensions continue to complicate the Fed’s efforts to bring inflation back to its 2% target.

Despite these concerns, markets interpreted his cautious tone as reducing the likelihood of an immediate rate hike. Recent CME FedWatch data shows the likelihood of a rise in October dropped to 14.9% after his statements, compared to 27.7% before. U.S. equity futures climbed, the dollar edged down slightly, and the 10-year Treasury yield edged back toward 5.08%-5.09%.

Warsh also noted that artificial intelligence is potentially the most significant economic change of his lifetime. He noted that the AI investment boom is driving demand and adding to near-term inflationary pressures. However, he warned that its short-term impact on employment remains uncertain and that the transition to higher productivity could be “bumpy.”

What’s Next for Bitcoin and Gold Prices if the Fed Raises Rates?

Investors and traders’ main concern is how another rate hike may affect the US dollar, Treasury yields, Bitcoin, gold, and stock markets. At press time, BTC was trading at $82,137.30 and had already shown sensitivity to shifting rate expectations in recent sessions.

A Fed rate hike or stronger signals of further tightening could push real yields higher, increasing the relative appeal of cash and short-term Treasuries over cryptocurrencies.

Gold trading in a $4,170-$4,185 range could face similar pressure from rising opportunity costs, but its potential as an inflation hedge may partially support it. Persistent energy-inflation pressures may reduce downside risks, though continued real yield gains have weighed on gold during past tightening streaks. A rising U.S. dollar may compound pressure as the precious metal becomes more expensive for overseas buyers.

In addition, stock markets could be pressured, since rising interest rates raise discount rates for future earnings, which will affect growth and technology stocks. However, the extent of any market reaction would depend on whether the Fed’s decision aligns with investor expectations.

Ultimately, the market reaction will depend on the Fed’s decision and forward guidance. A widely expected rate hike may have a limited impact, while an unexpected move or a more hawkish outlook could trigger broader selling across Bitcoin, gold, and equities.
