  • J.P. Morgan forecasts Bitcoin will deliver 10% annualized returns over the next 10–15 years.
  • Bitcoin’s projected return exceeds estimates for U.S. large-cap stocks at 7.5% and gold at 5.5%.
  • Bitcoin carries a projected 55% annualized volatility, significantly above stocks and gold.

J.P. Morgan Asset Management expects Bitcoin to deliver a 10% compound annual return over the next 10 to 15 years, outperforming its projected returns for U.S. large-cap stocks and gold. The cryptocurrency enters the firm’s long-term return forecasts for the first time, with a 55% annualized volatility assumption accompanying the higher return estimate.

The 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions put expected annual returns for U.S. large-cap stocks at 7.5%, gold at 5.5%, and U.S. real estate investment trusts at 8.2%. Bitcoin’s inclusion stops short of incorporation into the firm’s main covariance matrices.

The asset manager has assigned the cryptocurrency a return range while keeping it outside those calculations. Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan highlighted the figures, saying they positioned Bitcoin as the highest-returning asset over the next decade.

AI Investment Shapes Broader Market Forecasts

The Bitcoin forecast accompanies a broader outlook shaped by a projected $15 trillion surge in global capital spending. JPMorgan expects investment centered on artificial intelligence and extending through 2040 to support productivity and economic growth.

Within that framework, the firm raised its U.S. real GDP growth forecast to 2.1% and projected developed-world nominal growth at 4.2%. It also lifted its U.S. large-cap equity return assumption by 80 basis points.

The firm identified economic nationalism, technology adoption, and changing capital flows as the forces shaping its long-term outlook. It expects domestic investment to increase, while warning that the shift could also bring greater volatility in inflation.

The announcement projected a 7% annualized return for a portfolio holding 60% stocks and 40% bonds. Higher real yields also strengthen the forecast for a 5.3% global aggregate bond return, compared with 2.1% in 2021.

Bitcoin Volatility Separates Return Measures

Against that backdrop, Bitcoin carries a higher volatility estimate than the conventional assets used for comparison. Its projected 55% annualized volatility is compared with approximately 18% for U.S. large-cap equities and 17.2% for gold.

JPMorgan also estimated Bitcoin’s arithmetic annual return at 20.9%, separate from its 10% compound return forecast. The figure represents a simple average, while compounding accounts for how repeated gains and losses affect an investment’s value.

That gap matters on account of losses reducing the base from which later gains accumulate. The two figures, therefore, describe different measures of performance over time. At a constant 10% annual growth rate, an investment would reach approximately 2.59 times its starting value after 10 years and 4.18 times after 15 years.

J.P. Morgan’s forecast places Bitcoin among the assets with the strongest long-term return potential, but its higher volatility also signals greater uncertainty. The projections reflect the firm’s assumptions over a 10- to 15-year horizon, rather than a guarantee of future performance, leaving Bitcoin’s ability to deliver those returns dependent on how the market evolves.
