JPMorgan expanded its blockchain-based finance operations after filing for a new tokenized money market fund intended to support stablecoin reserve management under the proposed GENIUS Act framework. The filing also added to growing institutional activity linking stablecoin liquidity with tokenized U.S. Treasury products on Ethereum.
The bank’s asset management division submitted paperwork for the JPMorgan OnChain Liquidity-Token Money Market Fund, which will trade under the ticker JLTXX. According to the filing, the fund will issue digital tokens on the Ethereum blockchain that represent ownership in a portfolio backed by U.S. Treasuries and repurchase agreements. The filing stated that the underlying assets will remain with a traditional custodian.
JPMorgan reported that investors will be able to hold the tokens in digital wallets, transfer them between participants, or use them as collateral in crypto-related markets. Settlement times are also expected to occur within minutes, rather than the standard one-to-two-day process used in traditional fund structures.
Ethereum Continues Attracting Tokenized Treasury Activity
The JLTXX filing follows JPMorgan’s earlier blockchain-linked investment product, the My OnChain Net Yield Fund (MONY), which launched in December on Ethereum. MONY holds short-term debt securities and is structured to provide daily accruals of interest and dividends.
The latest filing also arrived as institutional firms explored tokenized Treasury products tied to stablecoin reserve infrastructure. Market participants, including BlackRock and JPMorgan, have recently focused on moving reserve-related liquidity onchain through tokenized Treasury instruments.
Cam Khosravi, research analyst at Bitwise, stated that stablecoin liquidity is becoming a key factor influencing where institutions choose to tokenize financial assets. He added that Ethereum could continue to strengthen its position in the tokenized Treasury sector as more reserve-backed products launch on the network.
JPMorgan Expands Blockchain Settlement Use Cases
Meanwhile, JPMorgan participated in a trial transaction involving a tokenized U.S. Treasury fund transferred from the United States through the XRP Ledger and interbank payment rails into one of the bank’s Singapore accounts within seconds.
In a separate move earlier this year, Morgan Stanley launched the Stablecoin Reserves Portfolio, allowing stablecoin issuers to place reserve assets into one of the bank’s money market funds while earning interest.
The International Monetary Fund also addressed tokenization risks in an April report. The IMF stated that tokenization could shift financial risks away from traditional banking systems and onto shared ledgers and smart contract infrastructure. The organization further noted that legal uncertainty surrounding ownership records and settlement finality could leave tokenized markets fragmented.
